    Quiz: Is it Time to See a Doctor About Your Joint Pain?

    Pain in your knees, hips, shoulders or ankles can interfere with your daily life.

    This simple "yes or no" questionnaire can help you determine if it’s time to see an orthopedic doctor.

    Read the questions below, and make note of your "yes" answers.
     
    For knee, hips and/or ankle pain:
    • Have you been limping when walking?  
    • Do you have trouble bathing or showering, and then drying yourself, because of your joint pain?
    • After sitting at a table for a while, do you have pain when standing up?
    • Are you kept awake by pain while lying in bed at night?
    • Has your pain interfered with your ability to do household chores or yard work?
    • Does walking down stairs cause pain?
    • Have you had any trouble getting in and out of cars because of joint pain?
    • Have you felt that your knee, hip or ankle might suddenly “give way” or fail in some way?
    • Do you need help to do household shopping?
    • If you kneel down, do you have trouble getting up afterwards?  

    For shoulder pain: Yes or No?
    • Do you have trouble bathing or showering, and then drying yourself, because of your joint pain?
    • Are you kept awake by pain while lying in bed at night?
    • Has your pain interfered with your ability to do household chores or yard work?
    • Do you need help to do household shopping?
    • Do you have trouble with common everyday tasks with your affected arm, such as dressing, grooming, cooking, eating or putting on a seat belt?
