Deaconess Heart Group providers are the only ones in the Tri-State performing certain structural procedures such as TAVR and LAAC (Left Atrial Appendage Closure).

TAVR

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR). The TAVR procedure is performed on patients that have diagnosed severe Aortic Stenosis (AS). TAVR is an alternative treatment for AS for those patients who have been evaluated and found to be at intermediate or greater risk for open surgical valve replacement. TAVR is a less invasive, catheter-based technique for replacing a patient’s diseased aortic valve. An interventional cardiologist along with a cardiothoracic surgeon work together in the TAVR procedure.

LAAO
(Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion)

LAAO (Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion) is a onetime implantable device that reduces the risk of stroke and the long term risk of bleeding in patients with Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation. The LAAO implant acts as a barrier to keep blood clots from leaving the left atrial appendage and going into the blood stream. Once the barrier has been placed you will have to continue anticoagulation for a short period of time until your heart tissue starts growing over the barrier.
