Deaconess Illinois Non-Participation in Medical Aid in Dying (MAID)
Deaconess Illinois has elected to exercise its right under Illinois law to opt out of participating in the End of Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act. Under the Act, no health care provider or health care entity is required to participate in MAID.
Consequently, Deaconess Illinois prohibits its employees, independent contractors, and credentialed medical staff from practicing MAID while on or in a Deaconess Illinois Facility or acting within the scope of their employment or contractual relationship with Deaconess Illinois.
Deaconess Illinois will continue to provide comprehensive palliative care, pain management, hospice coordination, psychosocial support, and spiritual care as medically indicated.
