Longitudinal Experiences
Echo OB/GYN Clinic
As part of obstetrics and gynecology rotations, residents spend 1-2 half days per week providing obstetrics and gynecology care at Echo Community Healthcare, a Federally-Qualified Health Center in Evansville. This busy clinic provides multi-disciplinary care for a diverse and underserved population.
Home Visits
Residents complete a minimum of two home visits on patients from their continuity panel. These visits are scheduled with a faculty member and focus on the functional status and home environment of the patient.
Medication Assisted Treatment
In 2019, DFMR began to treat patients with opioid use disorder using medication-assisted treatment (suboxone) in individual and group-based visits. Residents rotate through this weekly “ROBOT” clinic during their PGY3 year. Residents are supported in obtaining their buprenorphine waiver. PGY2 residents also attend substance addiction treatment groups as part of their psychiatry rotation.
Nursing Home
Residents are assigned 2 continuity patients to follow on a monthly basis within local extended care facilities beginning their second year. They are supervised by a board certified geriatrician who assists in caring for these patients.
Sports Physicals
In addition to performing sports physicals on our continuity patients within the FMC, residents also assist with mass sports physical screenings with the University of Evansville covering approximately 250 Division I student-athletes.
