Memorial Hospital Officially Rebrands as Deaconess Memorial Medical Center

Celebration marks new chapter in care, growth and community partnership
JASPER, IN — Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center has officially transitioned to Deaconess Memorial Medical Center, celebrating the change with a ceremony on August 1 that brought together hospital employees, business and community leaders, local officials and system leadership.
The event marked a major milestone in the hospital’s journey, honoring nearly 75 years of service in Jasper and Dubois County while embracing a future of growth, innovation and expanded access to care through its partnership with Deaconess Health System.

“This is a new name—but it’s also a continuation of everything Memorial has stood for,” Deaconess Memorial Medical Center CAO Keith Miller said. “For nearly 75 years, Memorial has been a symbol of compassionate, Catholic-based care. As we step into the future as Deaconess Memorial, we carry that legacy with us—now with greater resources, new services and an even deeper commitment to our community.”

The name change reflects the hospital’s integration into Deaconess Health System, which began in 2023. Since then, the collaboration has brought a wave of new services and specialists to the region, including inpatient nephrology, pain management, expanded surgical offerings and advanced technologies like the ROSA robotic surgical system and OrthoGrid. Patients can now receive a broader range of care without traveling far from home.

“This rebranding is more than cosmetic—it’s strategic,” Deaconess CEO Shawn McCoy said. “Deaconess Memorial Medical Center is a name that reflects both the rich tradition of Memorial and the strength of the Deaconess system. It’s a promise that our patients can receive advanced, specialty care right here in Jasper, delivered by caregivers who know and love this community.”

The name—Deaconess Memorial Medical Center—was shaped with input from more than 800 employees and community members. It preserves the Catholic identity and trusted legacy of Memorial, while clearly reflecting the hospital’s future as a regional hub for advanced, coordinated care. As part of Deaconess, DMMC is expanding its reach to serve more communities across southern Indiana and beyond—bringing expert providers, specialized services and comprehensive care closer to home. This name change represents both continuity and growth: honoring the past while advancing our mission to meet the evolving needs of the region.

Both leaders emphasized that while the name has evolved, the focus remains constant. Deaconess Memorial continues to operate under the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services, and its commitment to faith-based, patient-centered care remains foundational.

“Our vision is simple: more care, closer to home,” Miller said. “This transformation allows us to serve our patients more fully, support our staff more completely and shape a future where high-quality care is available right here in Jasper—now and for generations to come.”
