Deaconess Opens Tri-State's First Pediatric Infusion Center, Expanding Specialized Care For Children and Families

TRI-STATE — Deaconess Health System celebrated the opening of the Tri-State’s first-ever Pediatric Infusion Center today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Deaconess Gateway Campus. The Deaconess Pediatric Infusion Center is located on the third floor of Medical Office Building 6, home of the Deaconess GI Specialty Center.

The new center provides children and families with a dedicated, kid-friendly space for infusion therapy close to home. Pediatric patients may receive infusions for a variety of conditions, including inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease, immune system disorders, certain neurological conditions and other chronic illnesses requiring specialized medications.

“As our pediatric programs have grown, we recognized the need for a dedicated space designed specifically with kids and families in mind,” said Allie Ingler, Chief Administrative Officer of The Women’s Hospital and Director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Deaconess Health System. “This center allows us to create an experience built just for them—with compassionate care from our specialized teams and an environment that helps children feel comfortable, supported and cared for.”

The Deaconess Pediatric Infusion Center includes two private infusion bays and a group infusion bay that can accommodate up to three children receiving treatment together. The space features kid-friendly amenities, including Nintendo Switches, Disney+, puzzles and the chance to play video games with our Junior Volunteers.

“This is an exciting day because we’re opening the first Pediatric Infusion Center in the Tri-State,” said Dr. Rebecca Carey, pediatric gastroenterologist at the Deaconess GI Specialty Center. “Children aren’t just little adults. They experience healthcare differently, and they deserve an environment that is compassionate, positive and designed just for them.”

Dr. Carey said the center will help children receiving frequent treatments feel more comfortable and confident during their care.

“If we can make those visits something children can face with confidence instead of fear, we’ve made a real difference,” Dr. Carey said. “This center and the growth of our pediatric GI program are a statement of Deaconess Health System’s commitment to better serving children and families throughout the region.”
