Deaconess Gateway Hospital achieves Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification with ACHC

Deaconess Gateway Hospital proudly announces it has achieved Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification through the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) for the services of complex stroke care. TRI-STATE, May 20, 2024 – Deaconess Gateway Hospital proudly announces it has achieved Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification through the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) for the services of complex stroke care.

Deaconess Gateway is the first and only Comprehensive Stroke Center in the region. This is the highest level of treatment that can be provided. Midtown Hospital continues to provide excellent stroke care working collaboratively with Gateway and is Primary Stroke Center certified through ACHC.

Certification is a process through which healthcare organizations demonstrate compliance with national standards. Certification by ACHC reflects an organization’s dedication and commitment to meeting standards that facilitate a higher level of performance and patient care.

The designation as a Comprehensive Stroke Center recognizes Gateway’s commitment to providing exceptional stroke care and its adherence to rigorous national standards. To earn ACHC Comprehensive Stroke Center designation, Gateway underwent a meticulous evaluation process that assessed its capabilities in delivering advanced stroke care. This included an in-depth review of the hospital’s stroke treatment protocols, patient outcomes and the availability of specialized medical staff and technology.

“We are honored to receive this designation from ACHC,” Deaconess Neurohospitalist Dr. James Gebel said. “This recognition is a testament to our dedicated team’s hard work and commitment to providing quality care to our stroke patients. Our community can trust they are receiving care that meets the national standard at our facility.”

As a Comprehensive Stroke Center, Gateway is equipped to handle the most complex stroke cases, offering advanced imaging capabilities, 24/7 access to specialized neurology and neurosurgery care and a comprehensive approach to stroke treatment and recovery. The hospital’s stroke program includes rapid assessment and treatment protocols that significantly improve patient outcomes and reduce the long-term impact of stroke.

“Achieving this designation means that our patients have access to state-of-the-art stroke care, right here in our community,” Dr. Gebel said. “From initial diagnosis through rehabilitation, we are committed to providing a continuum of care that enhances recovery and quality of life for stroke survivors.”

The ACHC Comprehensive Stroke Center designation underscores Deaconess’ position as a leader in stroke care, and it reflects the hospital’s dedication to continuous improvement and excellence in healthcare services.
