Chris Ryan Receives Indiana Hospital Association Award of Merit
Chris Ryan, Director of the Women’s & Children’s Center of Excellence at Deaconess Health System and founding CEO of The Women’s Hospital, has received the Indiana Hospital Association (IHA) Award of Merit, which recognizes her more than 25 years of leadership and service to women, children and families across Indiana.
Ryan received the award at the IHA Annual Meeting on Tuesday, October 6. As founding CEO of The Women’s Hospital, which opened in 2001, Ryan led its growth from an innovative vision into a nationally respected resource for women and families throughout Southern Indiana and beyond.
“Chris Ryan has spent her career challenging conventional thinking and turning ambitious ideas into better care for women and children,” said Scott B. Tittle, IHA president. “Her vision and determination helped transform The Women’s Hospital from an idea that many questioned into a nationally respected resource for women and families throughout Southern Indiana and the broader region. The Award of Merit is a fitting recognition of Chris’s extraordinary contributions to Indiana healthcare and the lasting legacy she leaves behind.”
Beyond growing The Women’s Hospital, Ryan became a statewide advocate for maternal and infant health and a mentor to generations of healthcare leaders. Her work helped expand access to specialized care and strengthen collaboration among healthcare providers and community organizations.
“Chris built more than a hospital, she built a movement,” said Allie Ingler, chief administrative officer of The Women’s Hospital. “She elevated care, inspired people and changed the future of women’s and children’s healthcare in our state.”
As Ryan prepares to retire later this year, she continues to serve as Director of the Women ’s & Children’s Center of Excellence, providing strategic guidance and mentoring leaders across Deaconess Health System.
Her legacy will continue in the leaders she has mentored, the teams she has inspired and the countless mothers, babies and families whose lives have been touched by her vision and commitment to care.
