Psychiatry Residency

About the Program
Deaconess Hospital is the primary clinical learning site for the Indiana University School of Medicine Psychiatry Residency. This residency is one of many in the prestigious Indiana University School of Medicine family. The partnership arose as part of the Southwest Indiana Graduate Medical Education Consortium; an initiative of allied Indiana University Residency programs intended to provide care and address the physician shortage in the region.
Our residency offers residents broad-based clinical training in state-of-the-art facilities and a collaborative learning environment. We strive to develop leaders in the field psychiatry through a cooperative structure utilizing a large rural referral center, a certified community behavioral health clinic, and a state-run behavioral health hospital. Faculty and residents will work closely with the Mary O’Daniel Stone and Bill Stone Center for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, a learning health system that integrates clinical services, academic training, and real-world evidence-based research and training to improve access and outcomes for patients and the community.
The Psychiatry Residency at Deaconess Health System offers a four-year categorical track. Though the program is young, our core faculty is highly experienced.
