Internal Medicine Residency
Current Residents 2025
About the Program
Deaconess Hospital, in partnership with Good Samaritan Hospital, is a clinical learning site for the Indiana University School of Medicine Southwest Indiana Internal Medicine Residency at its Gateway campus. This residency is one of many in the prestigious Indiana University School of Medicine family. The partnership arose as part of the Southwest Indiana Graduate Medical Education Consortium; an initiative of allied IU Residency programs intended to provide care and address the physician shortage in the region.
Our residency offers residents broad-based clinical training in state-of-the-art facilities and a collaborative learning environment. We strive to develop leaders in the field of internal medicine through a cooperative structure utilizing a large rural referral center, an acute care hospital campus with multiple specialty hospitals and a Veterans Administration Clinic.
The Southwest Indiana Internal Medicine Residency offers both a three-year categorical track and a one-year preliminary track. Though the program is young, our core faculty is highly experienced with over 80 years of total experience in Graduate Medical Education. We have a proven legacy of recruiting high-performing residents from highly ranked medical schools, nationally, internationally and locally in Indiana.
