    Deaconess Nursing

A message from our Vice President of Nursing

    Jillian Swearer

In keeping with our organization’s mission, Deaconess nurses are at the forefront of providing quality patient care with a compassionate and caring spirit.

Your ongoing commitment to safe, patient-centered care has been nationally recognized since 2013, when Deaconess Midtown Hospital, Deaconess Gateway Hospital and Deaconess Cross Pointe first received Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

At Deaconess, nurses have a voice. Our robust nursing shared governance structure empowers our clinical nurses to actively participate in decision-making that shapes nursing practice, policy, and patient care. This empowers nurses to lead initiatives, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, drive quality improvements and influence change.

New graduate nurses are supported through an ANCC-accredited Nurse Residency Program, which provides a structured transition to practice focused on clinical competence, confidence, mentorship, and retention. Ongoing professional development, education, and career growth are strongly encouraged and supported-empowering nurses to advance their knowledge, skills, and leadership through a variety of structured and nurse-driven opportunities, including conference participation and professional development program. Deaconess offers tuition reimbursement and the Step Up professional advancement program, supporting nurses as they pursue higher education, specialty certifications, and leadership development. In addition, Deaconess Foundation funding provides access to regional and national conferences strengthening evidence-based care and innovation at the bedside.
