TrueBeam Advances Cancer Care

1/30/2018
Powerful New Technology to Treat Complex Cancers and Aggressive Tumors

Patients in the tri-state area can now receive advanced cancer treatment with the TrueBeam® Radiotherapy System. TrueBeam from Varian Medical Systems is an imaging system designed to provide radiation therapy with pinpoint accuracy. The TrueBeam equipment allows cancer specialists to treat very small yet aggressive tumors, such as brain/spinal lesions and head/neck cancers. It also integrates imaging and motion management, making it possible to deliver treatments to tumors in the upper body that move when the patient breathes.

Thanks to this new technology like motion management, integrated imaging and high dose rates, radiation therapy delivery can be precisely targeted. This technology assists in sparing healthy tissue and organs from receiving unnecessary doses of radiation. It also provides greater physical comfort for the patient and drastically reduced treatment times.

While other cancer programs have the TrueBeam equipment, Deaconess is the only regional health system utilizing MD Anderson Certified radiation oncologists--Jon Frazier, MD and Noah Taylor, MD--to administer treatment with this system. Combining the skill of these physicians, with MD Anderson Cancer Network® protocols and the sophisticated TrueBeam system, results in the highest level of cancer care.

The TrueBeam system from Varian Medical Systems resides in the Chancellor Center for Oncology at Deaconess Gateway Campus in Newburgh, Indiana, and is operated in partnership with Deaconess Cancer Services, an MD Anderson Cancer Network affiliate, and The US Oncology Network.
