Maternal Transport Services
The Women’s Hospital's highly-skilled Maternal Transport Team specializes in rapidly mobilizing to provide medical intervention to expectant mothers with obstetric emergencies. Our on-site ambulance is ready to bring a multidisciplinary team consisting of a trained paramedic, a high-risk obstetrical nurse, and a respiratory therapist to you. We make transferring high-risk obstetrical patients easy for referring hospitals because we want to be part of your team and assist in providing the highest quality care to all patients.
Our Maternal Transport Team is specifically assigned to transports 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This committed team works in concert with our maternal-fetal medicine specialists who are available through a dedicated phone number at all times. Each member of the Maternal Transport Team is certified in NRP, STABLE, and ACLS to maintain expertise in providing complex care to high-risk mothers. Our on-site ambulance is equipped with the most advanced technology to closely monitor mom and baby during transport.
Once our team has arrived at The Women’s Hospital, the patient is admitted to the Obstetrical Emergency Department for continued care. Our maternal-fetal medicine physician and transport coordinator provide follow-up with regard to the status of the transported patient(s) to the referring hospital. While some patients require only a short stay in the hospital, others are admitted to The Women’s Hospital Antepartum Unit. This space is dedicated to the care of high-risk maternity patients.
Neonatal Transport Services
The Women’s Hospital's highly-skilled Neonatal Transport Team specializes in the safe and swift transport of premature and sick newborns in need of critical care from a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). We transfer the newborn in our on-site ambulance that is equipped with the most advanced technology. The transport ambulance serves as an extension of the high-quality care provided in our NICU.
The Neonatal Transport Team consists of specially trained neonatal nurses and respiratory therapists with expertise in airway management and stabilization of critically-ill babies. Our neonatologist guides this care through constant contact with the transport team. Each member of the Neonatal Transport Team is certified in NRP, STABLE, and Cardiac STABLE to maintain expertise in providing complex care to newborns. Our team is available 24/7 during or after delivery.
Once the baby arrives at The Women’s Hospital Level III NICU, the family will be updated on the infant’s condition, stability and plan of care. A Level III NICU means that we have met the rigorous standards set by the state of Indiana with regard to the care we provide for the tiniest and most fragile infants. This allows us to meet our ultimate goal of reuniting healthy babies to their family and community.
