Organization Description:
I work at Progress Center for Independent Living and am presently co-leading a coalition called PPE For People with Disabilities , which is a group of over 30 individuals who are affiliated with Progress Center, Access Living, Rush University, Rush University, Univ. of Illinois at Chicago, SEIU, and Alliance for Community Services. Our mission is to access PPE and distribute it to our consumers with disabilities as well as their their Personal Assistants (who are considered essential healthcare workers) living Cook County (Chicago area).
Needs:
We are presently advocating and working with the Illinois' Dept. of Human Services to provide us with N95/KN95 and other PPE, such as gloves and face shields; however, in short, the process with them is complex and slow moving (but I think we're getting somewhere!) So, that is why we are utilizing a grassroots, bottom-up approach as well and are seeking PPE donations. Not only will fabric masks be provided to our consumers with disabilities, but also to the volunteers who will be delivery the PPE packages to people's homes.
We will accept as many adult size masks as possible, ideally at least 50-100; however, no donation is too small!
