United StatesTX Meals on Wheels of Denton County
1800 Malone St
Denton, TX 76210
Organization Description: Our organization serves the people in Denton County through programs such as: Meals on Wheels of Denton County, Span Transportation, and Senior Paws. Our vision is to provide a community for those in need through comprehensive services. In addition to serving seniors and people with disabilities, SPAN has been providing transportation for veterans throughout Denton County to and from the VA hospitals in Dallas and Fort Worth for over a decade. Span is an important participant among North Texas’ Human Service groups. We recognize that the best way for people in our area to thrive is through community collaboration. Our transportation program utilizes wheelchair-accessible vehicles and drivers trained to assist seniors and persons with disabilities. We provided almost 60,000 demand response trips last fiscal year, enabling people with mobility limitations to accesses needed medical care, social services, shopping, education and employment. We also provided almost 110,000 hot, nutritious noon meals to homebound seniors and persons with disabilities (Meals on Wheels), and congregate (group) lunches at seven senior centers and five senior housing complexes throughout Denton County. In addition to nutritious meals and education, the congregate meal program allows the added benefit of socialization for our seniors, and the home-delivered program allows for volunteers to check on the well-being of the homebound. As part of our Meals on Wheels program, we also offer the Senior Paws program - monthly pet food deliveries to homebound clients who can't afford pet food and might otherwise share their home-delivered meal with their pets. We do not currently have a waiting list for services. We are able to serve all those who meet the qualifications for services.
Needs: Our organization is in need of masks for our volunteers delivering meals to the elderly, for our drivers transporting patients to medical appointments.
