Admission Criteria and Process
Participants must serve at least 17 hours in a hospital and/or parish ministry with opportunities to provide direct pastoral care to persons. Additionally, the participant is responsible to take on-call duty at Deaconess for one shift, typically from 4:30 p.m.-8:00 a.m., every other week.
An "Extended Unit Placement Agreement" negotiated between Deaconess and an official at the ministry site is required before the beginning of the program, signifying the institution's willingness to support the student during the extended unit.
In addition to individual supervision at Deaconess by an ACPE certified educator, the participant also arranges for consultation from a qualified individual or committee at their ministry site. This individual or group agrees to consult with the participant about their ministry on a regular basis and the participant's individual educator as needed. A final report from the site committee/consultant is required at the end of the unit.
