Art Therapy

Posted: 2/16/2021
The 2020 Art Therapy Virtual Conference took a multi-cultural approach in providing a wealth of information for Amber, Art Therapist with Deaconess Cross Pointe, to assist in working in a culturally sensitive manner and better empathize with the diverse population she serves.

Through grant funding from Deaconess Foundation, Amber was able to attend sessions on using a trauma informed approach with sex trafficking survivors, working with law enforcement who experience vicarious traumatization, providing art therapy to young children who are suffering from physical health conditions, and adults with special needs.

Amber took away useful bits of information to improve the practice of art therapy and explore new ways to utilize art media such as clay, painting and coloring with patients. Thanks to our supporters, Deaconess Foundation can continue investing in current and future medical professionals, like Amber, ensuring Deaconess staff can adapt and thrive in the constantly changing world of health care.
