Deaconess-Most-Wired-James-Porter.jpgJames joined Deaconess Hospital in 2000 as a hospitalist & was appointed Vice President of Medical Affairs in 2002.  He became Vice President of Quality & Innovation and Chief Medical Officer for Deaconess Health System in 2006 and Senior Executive Vice President of the Physician Enterprise in 2013.
James received his bachelor’s degree in microbiology from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and his medical degree from the Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky. He is board certified in internal medicine and pediatrics and is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Porter is actively involved in his community including serving as chair of the Patient Safety Coalition of Southwest Indiana & Kentucky, chair of the board of directors of the United Way of Southwest Indiana and raising funds on behalf of the YMCA, American Cancer Society and the March of Dimes. He also serves on the Newburgh Sea Creatures board of directors and is a USA Swimming Official.
