Your Accommodations

We are committed to making your stay at Deaconess as comfortable as possible. Use the links below to learn more about your hospital accommodations. If you need additional assistance, call your nurse who will be happy to help you.

Room Assignment
Your room assignment at Deaconess Hospital is based upon your admitting diagnosis and bed availability on the day of your admission.

Calling Your Nurse
A button to call your nurse is located at your bedside. When you press the button, the nursing station is alerted that you need assistance, and a light flashes on above your door. A staff member will respond to your signal as soon as possible.

Your Bed
Your hospital bed is electrically operated and can be raised, lowered or adjusted to change the level of your head and feet. A staff member will show you how to operate your bed. For your own safety, always make sure your bed is in the lowest position before getting in or out.

The rails on your bed are there for your protection. They may be raised at night or during the day if you are resting, recovering from surgery or taking certain medications. It is recommended that you keep your bed rails up whenever you're in bed. If you need your bed rails raised or lowered, ask a staff member for assistance.

Room Temperature and Lighting
The temperature of your room is controlled by a thermostat located in your room. If the temperature in your room is uncomfortable please ask a staff member for assistance.

Lighting can be adjusted by pressing the buttons on your call bell. If additional lighting is needed, ask a staff member for assistance.

Mail and Newspapers
A limited quantity of free newspapers are available in stands throughout the hospital. Please check with our staff for the newspaper stand nearest to your room. Your mail and packages are delivered Monday through Friday (except holidays) by Deaconess Volunteers. Mail arriving after your discharge is forwarded to your mailing address. If you have a letter to send, please ask our staff to assist you. Friends and family can send you e-mail via, and it will be delivered to you.

Housekeeping Schedule
Environmental Services cleans hospital rooms daily between the hours of 7 AM and 4 PM. If you need housekeeping services after 4 PM, please ask a staff member for assistance.

Long Distance Calls
Deaconess provides four options for selecting a long-distance carrier. Dial 7777 on any hospital telephone. Listen to the options, and press the appropriate number on the phone.
Option 1: NCIC, billed at AT&T rates (calling cards, collect, third-party billing)
Option 2: AT&T (AT&T calling cards, collect, third-party billing)
Option 3: MCI (calling cards, collect, third-party billing)
Option 4: Sprint (calling cards, collect, third-party billing)
If you prefer a carrier other than one of the four mentioned above, dial 0, and the hospital Call Center will transfer you to the desired carrier. These calls must be billed using a calling card, collect or third-party billing.
Telephones are provided in each room, except in intensive care units. Patients may receive calls in their rooms from 7 AM until 10 PM. Friends or family may call your room by dialing 450 + your room number.
To make outgoing local calls on your telephone, dial "9" before dialing the number. For calls to other hospital rooms or departments, simply dial the last four digits of the number.
Each room is equipped with a color television set. Please do not bring radios or personal television sets to the hospital. Also, we ask that you be considerate of other patients by keeping the volume of the TV low and by turning off your set at bedtime.

Each room should contain a list of available television stations. If you cannot find your station list, or if you need assistance operating the television, please ask a staff member for help.

Internet Access
Internet access for patients and visitors is now available through wireless connection. If you have a laptop or other mobile electronic device capable of wireless network communication, please feel free to use this complimentary service.

As long as you are within range of a Deaconess wireless access point, you may connect to the Deaconess_Guest_Access wireless network and browse the Internet. Users are responsible for ensuring their computers have the correct software settings and necessary hardware. Coverage may be limited in certain areas of the hospital.
