Making an appointment is the first step to getting better. Patients may contact Deaconess Wound Services, or have their doctor contact the office for an appointment. Physicians may call to refer a patient or refer a patient in Epic.
Many non-healing wounds require a comprehensive treatment program:
Wounds that fail to show significant improvement in four weeks, or complete healing in eight weeks
Any wound which involves the tendon, ligament, bone or joint, especially those that include abscess, osteomyelitis, necrotic tissue in the wound or surrounding tissue
Neuropathies ulcers in diabetic patients, especially those with accompanying foot deformity
Wounds with significant ischemia
Wounds in compromised patients
Pressure wounds in non-ambulatory or morbidly obese patients
Wound care specialists design a treatment plan to meet the patient's individual needs, and keeps their physician involved in the treatment and recovery process.
