What is a gynecologic cancer?
Gynecologic cancers affect a woman’s reproductive organs, including the cervix, uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, vagina and vulva. Each year, approximately 82,000 women are diagnosed with cancer of the reproductive organs, including ovarian cancer and cervical cancer.
Who is a gynecologic oncologist?
Gynecologic oncologists are physicians committed to the comprehensive treatment of women with cancer. After completing four years of medical school and four years of residency in obstetrics and gynecology, these physicians pursue an additional three to four years of training in gynecologic oncology.

The Women’s Cancer Center is conveniently located within the Chancellor Center for Oncology on the Deaconess Gateway Campus.
Dr. Schuman understands how important it is for patients to be seen quickly. When a provider referral is made, the team members at The Women’s Cancer Center provide a rapid response and turnaround time getting that patient in to see Dr. Schuman.
From there, Dr. Schuman works with each patient to determine a treatment regimen that is right for them and quickly gets started on the delivery of that treatment plan.

Samer Schuman, MD, FACS, FACOG
Gynecologic cancer and breast cancer surgeries are Dr. Schuman’s primary clinical interests. He has special interest in minimally invasive surgery, and complex gynecologic surgical procedures.
