deaconess breastfeeding services

The Women’s Hospital is dedicated to providing our patients and families with information on evidence based care. That being said, Deaconess Women’s Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital for Women & Children are collaboratively seeking the Baby Friendly designation.

What exactly does this mean?

Baby Friendly is a special designation given only to birthing facilities that meet very specific and detailed criteria to promote the healthiest start to all infants and mothers. Both area hospitals seeking this designation together is a piece of a larger community health initiative and made possible by a grant that was awarded to the Welborn Baptist Foundation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Overwhelming scientific evidence demonstrates the health benefits of human milk.

BabyFriendlyUSA guides hospitals in becoming centers of breastfeeding support. This will help us give mothers the tools they need to achieve their goals.

So to all you moms-to-be out there, we understand that the choice of how to feed your baby is personal and influenced by many factors. The Women’s Hospital will provide support in achieving your infant nutrition goals and will give you the tools you need to succeed. We strive to make your birth experience a gentle transition for baby by offering the latest research concerning the importance of the first few days of life and beyond.

By working together we will accomplish our goal of becoming a healthier community. For more information on Baby Friendly, visit www.babyfriendlyusa.org.
