Stroke risk assessments, diabetes and cholesterol screenings, medication “brown bag” sessions and more will be offered at Eastland Mall on Friday, April 19 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Deaconess certified stroke nurses, pharmacists, diabetes educators and wellness coaches will provide a variety of screenings and related education at this free event.
This is the third year for the event. According to Margaret Anderson, RN, CCRN, Deaconess stroke nurse and organizer of the event, “In the past two years, we have found a significant number of individuals who are at risk for a stroke, including younger people in their 20s, 30s and 40s.” She added, “More people die of stroke than of all forms of cancer combined. Stroke is a serious health issue for individuals, our community and our country, yet many people don’t know that up to 80% of all strokes are preventable.”
There is no charge for any of the services, and fasting is not required for the screenings. For more information, visit www.deaconess.com/events
