Family Medicine Scholars Consortium Programs

The goal of the Family Medicine Scholars Consortium Program is to offer quality summer Family Medicine training opportunities to first-year medical students primarily attending the Indiana University School of Medicine. Students in this program are matched with preceptors practicing in a rural or urban community-based setting. The stipend for this 8-week program is $3,000 to cover living expenses during the summer. Application forms are disseminated through the IU School of Medicine Office of Student Financial Services. Completed applications are due February 1st of the year prior to the summer the student will participate in the program.

Junior Clerkship

We are pleased to be a site for third-year medical students from the Indiana University School of Medicine rotation. Students who are placed at our site are paired with one of our community preceptors for the month. Didactic sessions are taught once per week by faculty, residents, and various hospital staff. Interested students should contact the Indiana University Department of Family Medicine to be matched with our site.

Senior Electives

Senior students are encouraged to complete senior electives with Deaconess staff physicians in the areas of Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Pulmonary Medicine, Pediatrics, and Anesthesiology. Other electives are available so please feel free to ask about rotations of interest.

Housing is provided on campus in the Health Sciences Building. A tunnel connects this building with the hospital. A swimming pool, fitness center, and laundry facilities are located in the building. Meals are provided free of charge. Students are encouraged to attend daily noon conferences with the Family Medicine residents and Grand Rounds on Tuesday mornings, as time permits.
