Assessing Risk of Bone Fracture

Bone fracture X-RayLike hypertension, osteoporosis is considered a silent disease, because it typically causes permanent damage before its victims even know they have it. Most aren't diagnosed in the early stages of disease when treatment is needed. Rather, they hear the diagnosis after they experience a bone fracture.

Bone Mineral Density Screening

Bone mineral density (BMD) is an indicator of bone strength, and therefore, risk of bone fracture. Deaconess LifeQuest measures BMD using Sahara heel quantitative ultrasound (QUS). In addition to this screening, it is important to consider other risk factors for osteoporosis.

QUS testing results are used only for risk assessment and should not be used to diagnose osteoporosis or to monitor the effectiveness of osteoporosis treatment.

Bone density screenings are available at client worksites and on the Deaconess campus.
