Building a Healthy Baby

The Women's Hospital is pleased to provide the following classes to help you Build Your Healthy Baby!

To see class times and program cost, registration phone number or to register online, visit the events calendar. Call 812/842-4275 if you have any specific questions or concerns. Please note that class payment is required two weeks before class starts. It is best to complete all of your classes by the eighth month. This gives you time to: 

  • attend every class even if baby comes early
  • practice what was learned in class
  • discuss what you learned in class with your care provider

From Epidurals to Diaper Duty(Prepared Childbirth)

This unconventional childbirth and parenting class caters to women wanting an epidural for their birth. It also helps parents-to-be practice basic baby care skills including diapering, swaddling, burping and bathing. Learn what you can expect to experience with your birth at The Women's Hospital. Gain confidence in your ability to be a great parent. $35/couple.

Available program formats: Weeknight option includes four, two-hour sessions (one per week). Weekend option includes one, full-day session on Saturdays.

Lamaze

Planning a natural birth or looking for a class that will help you explore all of your options for birth and parenting?

Lamaze affirms the normalcy of birth, acknowledges women's inherent ability to birth their babies and explores all the ways that women find strength and comfort during labor and birth. As you can see, we are more than "just breathing."

Learn about Lamaze's Six Healthy Birth Practices in addition to the latest medical evidence on labor and birth. This comprehensive class includes Breastfeeding Simplified and Baby Care. Our Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator will engage you with unusual and entertaining teaching methods. $50/couple.

Available program formats: Weeknight option includes six, two-hour sessions (one per week). Weekend option includes two sessions (Saturday and Sunday).

Refresher

This class provides an intensive review of childbirth for those who have previously had a baby. Class topics are determined by the students interests on the night of class. A tour of the hospital is included. $15/couple.

Big Brother/Big Sister

This camp-themed class helps young children prepare for their new role! The Ages 3-5 class focuses on hand-washing, gentle touch, loud vs. quiet voice, and newborn behavior using simple words and ideas. The Ages 6-10 class focuses on diapering, swaddling, feeding, burping, and newborn behavior using more advanced words and ideas. A tour of the hospital and many fun take-home items are included. Bring a camera!

*Parents are encouraged to register for the class that would benefit their child the most.

Available program formats: Weeknight and weekend options available. One session. One hour and 30 minutes. Class dates and times vary based on enrollment of class for ages three-five or ages six-ten.

Breastfeeding Simplified

As a parent, you want what is best for your baby, right? Find out why breast milk is the ultimate in infant nutrition. Practice basic skills and learn how to avoid common problems. Infest in youmr baby's future by choosing to breastfeed. Fathers are strongly encouraged to attend. $10/couple. This class is included in the six-week Lamaze childbirth class.

Available program formats: Weeknight and weekend options available. One session, one hour, 45 minutes.

Pumping with Success

Bring your new baby and learn how to pump and store breastmilk, especially if you are returning to work. A veriety of pumps will be abailable for demonstration so you can choose the style of pump that is best for you. If you already have a pump, please bring it to class. It would be ideal to attend this class after breastfeeding is well established (for most women that is two weeks after birth). $10/mom.

Pediatric CPR for Family & Friends

Learn the latest techniques endorsed by the American Heart Association. This class is designed for anyone caring for a child. Leave your anxiety at the door bacause no written test or skills test is required to complete this class. Class size is limited and you may have to share a manikin with other students. $10/person.

Grandparent

Congratulations on the newest addition to your legacy! Learn the latest information on baby care, baby safety, and baby products. Discover how to transition from the role of parent to grandparent.

Permanent Car Seat Fitting Station

Car seat checks are offered at no cost and take place BY APPOINTMENT ONLY every Wednesday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Ohio Township Fire Department located at 4333 Epworth Rd., Newburgh, IN.  Participants may have their car seat checked for proper installation and receive instructions on proper fitting.  It will be helpful if the participant is able to take part in the installation demonstration.  Crawling in the back seat may be required. Please remember car seats older than 6 years should not be used, nor should car seats from garage sales or second hand shops.  Appointments are encouraged prior to discharge.top
