Emergency Reference Guide


  • CALL 911
  • Start CPR and Get AED
  • AED Preparation
  • Bare victims chest and shave EXCESSIVE hair if necessary
  • If Pacemaker or Defibrillator detected place 1-2 inches below bottom of device
  • If medicine patch detected remove and wipe clean
  • Dry skin if wet
  • Place AED pads as shown on diagram on the defibrillator pad
  • On small chest use a front/back placement
  • AED Analyzing- DO NOT TOUCH THE PATIENT
  • Shock Indicated or Not indicated
  • If shock indicated:  keep everyone clear of the patient.  Once shock delivered, AED will give command to resume CPR
  • AED will reanalyze every 2 minutes - Follow same steps as above
  • If patient becomes responsive, leave the AED on until EMS arrives
