Could you have a sleep disorder?

Sleep problems are much more than an inconvenience. They are an important health concern that shouldn’t be ignored. Sleep disorders are strongly linked to stroke, high blood pressure, heart disease, congestive heart failure, and diabetes type II, obesity, sexual dysfunction, chronic fatigue and motor vehicle accidents.

Common Signs for Sleep Disorders:

Do You Snore?
Snoring is an important indicator for sleep disordered breathing. Snoring disrupts yours and your bed partner’s sleep.

Do you feel tired/fatigued during the day?
Another really good sign of sleep disordered breathing. You are having difficulty initiating and maintaining restorative sleep. This results in a sleep debt or deficit which leads to mental and/or physical fatigue.

Do you often wake up to go to the bathroom?
This is called Nocturia which is a symptom of disordered breathing during sleep.

Do you wake with headaches?
Waking with a headache may be caused by CO2 retention (carbon dioxide build up) due to sleep disordered breathing.

Is your sleep often distrupted?
Sleep Fragmentation, frequent awakenings, can be caused by sleep disordered breathing.

Do you have dificulty going to sleep?
Insomnia is the most reported sleep disorder but in fact could be mistaken for other sleep issues such as sleep apnea.
