Your Deaconess Hospital Team
The physician who admits you is responsible for directing your care while you are a patient in the hospital. Deaconess also provides physicians known as hospitalists who specialize in the direct daily care of patients while they are in the hospital. A hospitalist may be involved in your care if requested by your physician, and he or she will consult with your physician whenever necessary to help ensure that you receive the proper care.
Nursing care is provided 24 hours a day by a team of professional registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, patient care associates and nursing assistants. Please contact your nurse or the nurse manager if you have questions or concerns.
Deaconess provides a wide range of therapists for patients who require therapy services, such as physical, speech, occupational or respiratory therapy. All therapy services are provided by specially trained, licensed/certified therapists.
Other Professional Services
Other personnel may provide professional services while you are in the hospital. Deaconess employs many highly qualified technicians, pharmacists, technologists and phlebotomists who may or may not need to visit your room but who will always work hard behind the scenes to help provide you with high quality care.
Nutritional Services Deaconess maintains a staff of registered dietitians to meet your nutritional needs during your stay. If you have questions about your meals or diet, please call extension 2290.
Social Workers/Case Management
Social workers and/or case managers are assigned to each patient care area and are trained to help patients and family members deal with financial, social and emotional problems related to illness or hospitalization. Staff members from these departments are also involved in your discharge planning.
Our environmental services staff is responsible for keeping your room clean. A staff person should visit your room every day to clean and tidy. If there is a housekeeping problem in your room, please tell our staff, and it will be taken care of as soon as possible.
Patient accounts staff can answer questions about your hospital bill and help you interpret financial policies and billing procedures at the hospital. Patient Accounts can be reached by calling extension 3402.
Members of the Deaconess Religious Life Department can assist you with your spiritual needs, whatever your religious tradition. Many of our staff are specially trained in hospital ministry. Your priest, minister, rabbi or spiritual leader is also welcome to visit while you are here.
Health Science Library
The Health Science Library works with physicians, nurses and other medical professionals to help patients understand their medical condition and the diagnostic tests or treatments that may be performed. This information is provided to relieve patient anxiety and help patients become more comfortable asking questions about their care. Contact the library at extension 3384 for more information.
