Special Services at Deaconess

Deaconess Hospital offers a variety of special services to make your stay as comfortable and convenient as possible. Use the arrows below to scroll to topics of interest.


Voice Concerns at 450-STAR

If you feel you are not being treated fairly, or if you have other complaints or concerns about your care, call 812/450-STAR (7827) to voice your concerns. You may also express your concerns to your physician or nurse.

Hospital Safe for Valuables
For you own protection, we encourage you to limit the belongings you keep at the hospital to personal care items. If you do have money or other valuables with you, those items may be placed in the hospital safe for your convenience or sent home with a family member. Please ask a staff member for assistance if you need to place items in the safe.

Lost and Found
If you should misplace, lose or leave articles in your room or elsewhere in the hospital, contact Environmental Services at extension 3307. Articles are kept 30 days and may be retrieved Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM.

Hearing Impaired Services
Deaconess Hospital offers services to the hearing impaired, including telecommunications devices and sign language interpreters. Please contact your nurse for information.

Interpreters
The hospital has interpreters for a number of foreign languages if a patient should require it. Ask your nurse to request this free service.

Mail
Your mail and packages are delivered Monday through Friday (except holidays) by Deaconess volunteers. Mail arriving after your discharge is forwarded to your mailing address. If you have mail to send, please ask your nurse to assist you.

Beauty/Barber Shops
Located on the first floor of the hospital are a beauty shop and a barber shop. These services are available to any patient (with doctor's permission), visitor or employee. Appointments are necessary, and payment must be made at the time of your visit to the beauty or barber shop. Normal operating hours are:

Barber

Mon./Tue.

- 8 AM to 3 PM

Thur./Fri.

- 8 AM to 4:30 PM

(closed Wednesdays, weekends and holidays)

 

Beauty Shop

Tue. through Sat.

- 8 AM to 5 PM

(closed Sundays, Mondays and holidays)

Flowers and Gifts
Flowers and gifts are purchased in the gift shop. Stop by their location near the hospital's main entrance, or call them at 812-450-GIFT (4438)

Sitter Services
Sitter services must be arranged through an outside agency. For more information or a listing of available agencies, please contact your social worker or case manager.
