Pastoral Services at Deaconess
The chaplains at Deaconess and Deaconess Gateway are available to provide for your spiritual and emotional needs during your stay. Whether you are a patient, friend or family member of a patient, spiritual care providers are available 24 hours a day.
Chaplains provide support to patients and friends or families of patients on on multiple Deaconess campuses. You may request to speak to a chaplain at any time during your hospital stay at Deaconess Downtown, Deaconess Gateway, or the Heart Hospital.
Reasons to Call a Chaplain
You wish to speak to a caring person.
You would like help contacting your church or religious community.
You would like support for a friend or family member.
You feel anxious or upset about a situation.
You would like communion, prayer or the Sacrament of the Sick.
You would like prayer before a surgery or procedure.
Chapel services are held on Wednesday at 3:30 at Deaconess Hospital (main campus). Special seasonal chapel services are held at both Deaconess Hospital and Deaconess Gateway Hospital. The chapel remains open 24 hours a day for quiet time and prayer.
Publications and Reading Materials
Bibles are provided in patient rooms and in the chapel at Deaconess Hospital and Deaconess Gateway Hospital. Sacred writings from other faith groups are available through the chaplain's office.
A prayer book is available outside the chapel at Deaconess and Deaconess Gateway. You may also send a prayer online. One of our chaplains will offer a prayer for you or your loved one.
Daily devotionals, written by clergy in the community, are provided each morning on meal trays. If you do not receive a devotional, please contact us so that we can provide one to you.
