Information for Family & Friends
for Surgery/ICU areas
Our goal is to provide excellent service to each patient and family that receives care at Deaconess Hospital. It is also our goal to assure each patient they may have family nearby during their stay.
Although we understand the desire for all family members to be present during your surgery and/or ICU stay, our seating capabilities are limited. So that we may fairly provide seating for each family, we must ask your assistance and co-operation with the following:
Each patient may have 4 family members seated in the lounge at any one time. The remainder of your family may have a seat in the Main Lobby.
Patient Centered Visitation encourages liberal family/patient time while focusing on the needs of the recovering patient. Because undisturbed rest is an important component of the healing process, Deaconess has established visitation guidelines. Visitation in the ICU is restricted to immediate family members.
Children under the age of 12 . . .
• may not wait in ICU or Surgery lounges.
• may not visit ICU patients.
• may wait in the Main Lobby with an adult.
TO HELP YOU..........
A Visitor Assistant is on duty to provide information, answer your questions, and act as a liaison between you, the nursing staff and the physician. Please feel free to ask questions or request assistance. Our goal is to provide excellent service in accordance with the above guidelines.
Visiting hours vary within different areas of the hospital and are also at the discretion of the medical or nursing staff. Visiting hours for the majority of the hospital are 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Under certain circumstances, parents or significant others may stay with patients 24 hours a day. Please discuss this with your nurse or physician.
Children younger than 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Due to the stressful nature of the hospital setting, child care is recommended when possible.
Some areas in the hospital have special visiting times. For a list of these areas and their visiting times, please contact the hospital operator by dialing extension 5000.
We offer friends and families several options for meals and snacks. Locations and serving times are included in the Food & Nutrition Services section.
