Child Life services at Deaconess Hospital consist of helping children and families cope with needed medical services. We do this through a variety of mechanisms and in multiple locations throughout the system, such as in-patient, out-patient, ambulatory, and emergency department.
We embrace the value of play in the healing process as we work to ensure optimal growth and development. Assessment of child life services is done in collaboration with the patient, family, physicians, and other Our Locationhospital staff.
Our Child Life services mirror services provided at Riley Hospital for Children and we are in collaboration with their Child Life department on a regular basis.
We partner with parents in their child's care by providing:
- Art projects
- Crafts
- Reading
- Music
- Support of patient interaction in Playville
- Support of parents through conversation, diversion, or a needed break from the room
- Play opportunities specific to each child's interests and particular situation
