The Heart Hospital at Deaconess Gateway received national honors when Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, announced them as a recipient of the 2017 Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award™ and the 2017 Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award™.
Only 45 hospitals in the nation have achieved both Patient Safety Excellence and Outstanding Patient Experience Awards for two years in a row (2016-2017).
This is the fourth year for The Heart Hospital to receive a Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ (2013, 2014, 2016, and 2017). The honor recognizes hospitals for providing outstanding patient experience based on 10 measures related to doctor and nurse communication, hospital cleanliness and noise levels, and medication and post-discharge care instructions. The award is based on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient survey data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
This is the second year for The Heart Hospital to receive a Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award™ (2016 and 2017). The designation recognizes hospitals for how well they prevent infections, medical errors, and other complications based on 13 serious, potentially preventable adverse events. Patients receiving care at Patient Safety Excellence Award recipient hospitals have, on average, a lower risk of experiencing patient safety events than at non-recipient hospitals.
“The Heart Hospital is the only acute care heart hospital in the region dedicated to the treatment of heart and vascular care,” says Becky Malotte, Executive Director and Chief Nursing Officer of The Heart Hospital. “As evidenced by these awards, our compassionate, caring staff, and exceptionally talented physicians provide the kind of care that leads to successful outcomes and satisfied patients.”
