The American Heart Association recognized Deaconess as a “Fit-Friendly Company” during a presentation this morning. Thanks to an organization-wide focus on improving the health of our employees, Deaconess qualified at the Platinum Level status as well as received credentials for Worksite Innovation.
Offer employees physical activity options in the workplace (Deaconess has a fitness center, exercise classes, Couch to 5K program, and more.)
Increase healthy eating options at the worksite (We have upgraded our vending machines to include healthier options and nutritional information. We also threw out all of our fryers so patient, guest, and employee meals do not include fried food.)
Promote a wellness culture in the workplace.
Demonstrate measureable outcomes related to workplace wellness. (National healthcare groups have asked to profile our Diabetes and Medication Therapy Programs based on our data and outcomes.)
Deaconess accomplished these tasks through the efforts of our employee wellness program. We received the Worksite Innovation award due to the new components of our wellness program, namely our Diabetes Management Program and Medication Therapy Management. Through these initiatives, Deaconess employees, spouses, and dependents, receive the individual attention needed to make a plan for better health and stick to it.
